COVID – 19 Update

May 10, 2020

Dear Pierce Park Family,

We will resume meeting on May 10 at 10:30 a.m. Yes, PRAISE THE LORD!! I want to assure you that we have taken (COVID-19) seriously. Here’s the plan to re-open Pierce Park Baptist Church. I think I can speak for a lot of us that we are happy we will be able to gather together soon. Anticipation is high I think, all of us want to get “back to normal.” We are not sure what normal will be going forward. I don’t know of any church or pastor who is looking to re-open with a “business as usual” mindset. As we return to one another and our campus in our worship service, let’s return in an orderly and thoughtful way.

Pastor J.W. and I are pastors and shepherds of God’s people, one of our chief roles is that of protector. Shepherds in Biblical times had to be prepared to defend the flock against predators and thieves. Shepherds were temporary stewards of their master’s sheep, and we are no different. As pastors, we shepherd God’s people, and a large part of our role is to protect, to anticipate, and to act on behalf of the sheep entrusted to us by God. As I prayed and have spoken with other leaders this plan is what I believe makes sense for our church. We may need to tweak this plan to fit as time goes on. Here is what you should expect when you return to PPBC:
  • The building has been cleaned and surfaces wiped down.
  • The rear entrance (east side of building) will be the only entrance open to the church at this time.
  • The doors will be propped open when you arrive. This is to reduce contact of common surfaces.
  • We will maintain social distancing at this time, please no hugs or handshakes.
  • Hand sanitizer will be available as you enter the building and the sanctuary, the bathroom sinks will have hand soap and paper towels.
  • Face masks are not required, but are acceptable, if you do not have one, masks will be available.
  • Chairs have been moved to increase the amount of space to accommodate suggested distances, they are set up in groups of 2’s, 3’s, and 4’s, depending on seating needs.
  • The fellowship hall will be closed; it will be opened only in need of overflow seating.
  • For the time being, the kitchen will be closed, all snacks, coffee, and shared meals are canceled at this time.
  • You will be directed to enter the sanctuary from two doors, one on the right side and one on the left.
  • We are asking that you fill the seats from the front of the sanctuary to the back.
  • Offering plates will not be passed from person to person. You will find offering plates located at the entrances you may place your offering in as you enter or exit, we thank you as you support the ministries of PPBC.
  • At the conclusion of the service we will dismiss from the back to the front of the sanctuary, we ask that we do not gather in the foyer, that you would move to the parking lot to visit, remembering social distancing.
  • We will not have any Sunday school or Bible Study at the church facility at this time, those will remain as they are now on live-streaming.
We cannot guarantee stopping of any virus in corporate gatherings. We take the issue seriously and want to give assurance that the care and safety of our church family is being made. We want to obey our Lord when gathering while understanding the serious danger this virus is.

I want to thank you for your cooperation as we move forward.

In His Service,

Pastor Bill
