Romans 12:1-2
 
CONFORM - conform to, fashion (one’s) self according to; to conform or fashion one’s self, one’s mind, one’s character to another’s pattern

 

1. Change your mindset.
a. about your body (v. 1)
b. about the world (v. 2)

2. Change your thinking.
a. build according to His pattern
    (1) with Sound words (2 Tim 1:13)
    (2) with a  Heavenly reality (Acts 7:44-50, Hebrews 8:5-6)

3. Change your behavior
a. Get rid of Excuses
b. Distractions
c. Discouragement

     * In this sermon I misquoted a verse on point #4, saying Psalm 28:13 says...the correct verse is  Proverbs 28:13.
     
     
    1. Build confidence in leadership and other believers. (1 Thessalonians 5:11-13)
     
     
    I. Other believers
    a. Comfort others. (to give strength and hope to)
    b. Edify others (instruct especially to encourage spiritual improvement)
    c. Be at peace with one another (freedom from quarrels and disagreements)

     

    II. Leadership
    a. Recognize (show appreciation and value the authority of) those who labor over you in the Lord
    and admonish (counsel) you
    b. Esteem (respect) them highly in love for their work’s sake.
     
     
    2. Build confidence in ministry. (1 Thessalonians 5:14-15)
    a. Warn others about inappropriate behavior
    b. Comfort those deficient in courage. (provide relief and encouragement; console)
    c. Uphold the weak. (prevent from falling)
    d. Be patient with all. (endure pain, difficulty, provocation, or annoyance with calmness)
    e. Don’t render (pay) evil for evil, but always pursue what is good for everyone.
     
     
    3. Remain devoted. (1 Thessalonians 5:16-18)
    a. Rejoice always.
    b. Pray without ceasing.
    c. Give thanks in everything.
     
     

    4. Live a life in righteousness. (1 Thessalonians 5:19-23)
    Proverbs 28:13 says, "He who conceals his transgressions will not prosper,
    But he who confesses and forsakes [them] will find compassion.

    a. Don’t quench the Spirit. (don’t resist His influence; don’t say “no” to God)
    b. Don’t despise the prophecies. (don’t look down on with contempt…that it is worthless)
    c. Test all things! (use the Bible to critically evaluate; to determine the truth)
    d. Hold fast to what is good. (stick firmly to what is good)
    e. Abstain from every form of evil. (don’t engage in evil)
    f. Pray the God of Peace sanctify you (set apart; to purify; make holy)

    Six things you should preach to yourself when at a Pressure Point:
     
    I. Don't be ignorant or unaware...You will experience pressure.  v.8
     
    II. Pressure can stress you, stretch you, and wear you out.  v. 8b
     
    III. Stop trying to figure out where the pressure is coming from and learn how to handle it.  v. 9
     
    IV. Remember, you have been here before.  v. 10
     
    V. God has never failed; pray like it matter.  v. 10-11
